Elizabeth Turcke
Math and Science Instructor
Ms. Turcke, Founder and Head of School at Leahurst College, is a graduate of Queen’s University with degrees in Chemistry (Honours) and Education. A passionate educator, Ms. Turcke taught mathematics and chemistry for 22 years at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute before opening Leahurst.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Turcke has developed a clear and extensive philosophy of education. This philosophy is reflected in all aspects of learning at Leahurst. At its core is the belief that students must be inspired, and that this occurs when great teaching encourages students to explore and dig deeper into concepts. She recognizes how important it is for students to begin from a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, to think critically, and to develop their problem-solving abilities as they prepare for the world of post-secondary education.
“We like to encourage our students to discover that they are capable of so much more than they believe. With caring and support, they are more willing to step outside of their comfort zones and take risks. It is remarkable and so rewarding to see our students achieve success, and surpass their own expectations.”
Ms. Turcke leads a team of remarkable educators. She has created an environment where it is clear that her faculty go the extra mile towards both the academic and personal development of all Leahurst students.
