Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Ms. Benson earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen's University, followed by a Bachelor of Education from York University. After graduating, she taught for two years with the Greater Essex District School Board in Windsor and then spent five years with the Toronto District School Board.

In 2016, Ms. Benson returned to Kingston and began working at Leahurst College. She teaches math, created the Grade 7 Problem Solving course, and authored several Leahurst math textbooks.

Ms. Benson is a lifelong learner who enjoys challenges, acquiring new skills, and collaborating with others. Her teaching approach centers on her love of math and problem-solving, which she passionately shares with her students.

Outside the classroom, Ms. Benson enjoys spending time with her three children, swimming, boating, hiking, and being outdoors. She also loves a good book and a cup of tea in her hammock.

Although not consecutive, this is her sixth year at Leahurst.
